Air today, gone tomorrow!   

Regarding the title above, we're not talking about the staying power of the new Air technology that is taking the camping world by storm, but the stock levels!

The new Air Frame and Smart Air tents from Kampa and Outwell respectively seem to have gone down well with consumers, with designs like the Kampa Rally Air steadfastly remaining sold out on pre-order at most retailers before any free stock even hits the shelves. Such is the demand for inflatable caravan awnings that there is now a waiting list on many items, with Kampa hurrying to try and fulfil demand.

The Smart Air polycotton designs that Outwell have released for 2013 are also turning heads and, despite a hefty price tag denoting their ultimate luxury status, are set to be fully sold out by mid season. Plenty of units have been sold already and, if rumours are true about Outwell's minimal stock-holding this year, retailers will not be able to get their hands on any free stock later in season.

So why are Air tents and inflatable awnings proving so popular?

Well, there are plenty of reasons that have been put forward but the single biggest reason seems to be the single person pitch. An inflatable awning for a touring couple in a caravan means John can quickly put up the awning and Mary can get the kettle on. The speed and easy of pitching is also a definite bonus, so expect more styles and designs using this technology next year.

Inflatable tents also mean you can single-handedly raise a 10 man polycotton tent should the situation arise, and leaves more time for multitasking or one parent taking the kids to be busy elsewhere whilst the other does the tent (that or you get the kids to inflate it).

Are they fragile?

Quite the opposite in fact - Air tents should have more resilience to wind and storm conditions as there are no poles to break or rub on stress points causing damage
