VIVOBAREFOOT - The original Barefoot Shoe.
About VIVOBAREFOOT

We make shoes.
Better for you. Better for the environment.
In 2003, VIVOBAREFOOT became a pioneer of the barefoot movement by launching the first minimalist shoe with a patented, ultra thin puncture resistant sole that offered maximum sensory feedback and maximum protection. This was driven by the knowledge that 70% of your brain’s information for movement comes from the nerves on the soles of your feet. The more you can feel the ground, the greater your body’s understanding of its surroundings and natural movement.
In 2010 and 2012, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Harvard University, both released studies to support that barefoot reduces injuries, reserves energy, and improves technique.
As demand for barefoot health grows, so does demand for VIVOBAREFOOT and the collection features the most comprehensive line of minimalist shoes on the market. The VIVOBAREFOOT difference is in the sole. We make a series of constructions specifically designed for varying elements, terrains, and activities. From high performance off-road and trail running shoes, to work and kids shoes, VIVOBAREFOOT offers a total lifestyle solution for the whole family and options for transitioning from walking to sports.
VIVOBAREFOOT footwear is produced sustainably using recycled, locally sourced materials, with efficient and eco-friendly production techniques, in independently monitored ethical factories.
BAREFOOT

With 200,000 nerve endings, 33 major muscles, 28 bones, 19 ligaments; the human foot is a biomechanical masterpiece.
In the last 40 years we have been led by a common misconception that cushioned, padded sneakers are better. Despite all the developments in sports shoe technology, an estimated 79 percent of people give up running because of injury – a movement that should come naturally.
However, unless you were brought up in an unshod, chair-free environment you are likely to be lacking in certain physiological qualities and biomotor skills for running. Barefoot running is a skill that has to be learnt. The modern human being is generally disconnected with nature so we need to relearn how to run.
No heel, no midsole, no arch support, no gimmicks! VIVOBAREFOOT helps encourages us to move as million years of evolution intended - barefoot.
Foreword by Daniel Lieberman, Professor of Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University
Many people today think that they need stiff-soled shoes with lots of cushioning and arch support, yet we humans evolved to walk and run barefoot. In fact, until recently, everyone was either unshod or wore minimal footwear with flexible soles, and little arch support or cushioning. So try taking off your shoes! Adopting a barefoot style of running and having strong feet is not only more natural, but also may be very good for one's health.
Our research shows that when people run barefoot or in minimal shoes, they typically adopt a classic, gentle running style in which they land on the ball of the foot, and don't overstride. As an educator, I strongly believe that more of us need good, scientific, evidence-based research on how our bodies work so that we can make informed choices about how to walk, run, and stay healthy. I am pleased that VIVOBAREFOOT is helping to make this information widely available. All of us - and our feet - are sure to benefit.
