PURE OUTDOOR PASSION FOR OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
Danish tent manufacturer, Robens®, has introduced a good-looking new hybrid dome to its 2015 Adventure range, which promises small group and family outdoor enthusiasts a base tent that provides a high degree of comfort while maintaining performance levels.

The proven hybrid dome design of the Chalet 400 (pictured left) provides excellent space and standing height. Entry is via a single front door that is backed by a mesh door to keep out insects while maximising ventilation on hot days. This leads to a large living area that features a detachable bathtub-style groundsheet for easy maintenance and versatility. Large windows provide plenty of light and great views of the surrounding countryside. Zip down curtains offer privacy when needed.

The single four-berth black-out bedroom is designed to ensure a low light intensity to aid sleep. The bedroom zips onto the outer for ease and the use of mesh as the connecting material maintains the air flow vital to ventilation and condensation control. A column of pockets located on the bedroom’s outer wall completes the package by providing somewhere to store small items like head torch.

While it is recognised that much-desired comfort can be successfully integrated into an active outdoor lifestyle quality and stability remain paramount in the Chalet 400 and follow the brand’s aim to provide no-compromise technical performance at affordable prices.
The tent is made from HydroTex® 5000 – fire-retardant polyester unique to Robens. This is PU-coated to give the same 5,000mm hydrostatic head as the ultra-tough 75D polyester Taffeta floor.
The DAC alloy poles all interlink using DAC hubs to simplify pitching and to keep the pack weight down to 10.6kg and pack size down to 68cm x 23cm while maintaining maximum dimensions for easy living. Pitching is eased further by the use of Quick Set Guyline Hooks (pictured left).
Material strength and the design’s overall stability and weather-beating performance are tested to the maximum at the Robens in-house test facilities. The Chalet 400 has been subjected to a wind speed of 129km/h and bears the Robens Wind Test logo.

Robens continues to test all its tents using its own in-house facilities and, during the tests, register the maximum (MAX) speed impact a tent was subjected to and the average (AVG) wind speed at which structural instability occurred. Structural instability may show as the collapse of tent, returning to shape when the wind drops, or a broken/deformed pole. At no point did Robens encounter any form of catastrophic failure up to the maximum wind speed and an icon is now used, including on the Robens website, to show the MAX and AVG figures for each tent. The Chalet 400 Wind Test figures are: MAX 129km/h and AVG 120km/h.
