It sounds like an instrument when you use it, with whatever is inside. I used it on tethering every single camping item I had and it was super easy. I also did not worry that I was going to smash my fingers to pieces as the rubberized outer shell provides a soft yet tough cushion.

I bought this mallet as my original one (not this type) broke as soon as i started using stronger pegs. This one added a bit more ooomph to the process and also stood up to the hard ground and stronger pegs. Very happy with this purchase.
