Outdoor adventurers looking to minimise the weight of equipment carried during more demanding pursuits will welcome the new sub-1kg Buzzard UL tent from Robens®. The Buzzard UL joins the Falcon UL as one of two two-person tents that appear in the awardwinning technical tent manufacturer’s new Ultralite range. All materials are chosen to balance performance and weight while maintaining quality and resilience. Ultralite tents feature the brand’s own HydroTex® UL for the flysheet. This is a 10D nylon that has been siliconised both sides to create a 3,000mm hydrostatic head. Nylon mesh is used for the inner and the groundsheet is made from 20D ripstop nylon. The main poles comprise 7001 T6 aluminium alloy and carbon fibre is used for the side poles in the Buzzard UL and for the apex pole in the Falcon UL.

The 995g Buzzard UL (pictured left) is based on the outgoing award-winning Robens Buzzard – a two-person transverse single hoop design that quickly pitches outer first or as one. It features a single door and porch with additional end poles to increase internal head and foot space. Where these connect to the tent creates a cowl that protects mesh vents. A minimum number of single rope pegging points provide fast pitching and easy adjustment needed in more demanding conditions. The overall weight of the Buzzard UL can be reduced to 950g when stripped to the minimum for transportation and pitching, and it packs to 35cm x 12cm into a roll-top carrybag.

The larger Falcon UL (pictured right) weighs in at just 1.09kg (1.02kg when stripped down) and pitches outer first or as one. It features a carbon apex cross pole that extends the headroom into the porch area. The use of a hub one side to connect two lower poles with the main hoop increases the head and shoulder space in the inner tent and creates a wind-shedding profile opposite. Like the Buzzard UL, it features single rope pegging points for quick pitching and easy adjustment. It packs down to just 44cm x 10cm and comes in a roll-top bag for convenient storage and transportation
