ADD VALUABLE LIVING AND BEDROOM SPACE TO CAMPER VANS

Outwell Awnings

Many people who regularly use campervans, vans, MPVs and smaller motorhomes, like panel van conversions, know how useful it is to have the extra living and bedroom space provided by a drive-away awning. And a growing number of enthusiasts are recognising that award-winning Scandinavian outdoor brand, Outwell, has been producing superlative quality and versatile drive-away awnings that stand out from the crowd.

The two 2016 collections comprise Touring and Crusing. The unique styles, innovative features and attention to detail define these traditional pole drive-away awnings and the speed and simplicity of erection they bring are also appreciated by drivers looking for temporary shelter when attending events or enjoying outdoor activities with friends and family from a utility vehicle. All awnings can be left freestanding, allowing the vehicle to be used for daily trips out. All standard models have an attachment height of 180cm–220cm while Tall options increase this to 240cm-290cm.

Stability and safety are key factors to development and all drive-away collections feature the Outwell Wind Stabilizer System. Testing takes place at the Outwell in-house test facilities to ensure that, if correctly erected, awnings will withstand storms and driven rain. Touring drive-away awnings will withstand up to a Force 9 gale while Crusing awnings withstand Force 8 winds.

Motorhome drive-away awningsThe Touring Collection comprises the California Highway (pictured left), Country Road and Country Road Tall. All are made from Outtex 4000 – a specially commissioned fabric with a class-leading 4,000mm hydrostatic head. And all use a combination of steel leg and Duratec roof poles for enhanced strength and stability while reducing weight, storage space and effort required during erection.

These drive-away awnings are packed full of outstanding examples of Outwell tent innovation and features include:

  • Simple erection using the Outwell Easy Pegging System California Highway
  • Luminous pre-attached guylines to minimise risk of tripping accidents
  • Large tinted windows that reduce UV penetration and increase privacy and great views out
  • Unique Link Access Zone System that closes the connecting gap between vehicle and an awning while allowing external access via side doors
  • Outwell Sealed Ground System – Zip-out that attaches groundsheet to awning by zip for maximum protection from draughts and bugs while facilitating maintenance
  • Additional weather protection provided by Rain Safe door and porch options.

The California Highway has the Outwell Universal Connection System that fits either side of the drive-away awning to connect top and bottom to any van-sized vehicle. It also benefits from a Thermo Roof that insulates from temperature extremes and aids ventilation. Its flat front door panel can be completely folded back. This is protected by a large porch that provides the perfect place to sit no matter the weather, or a place to store wet or muddy gear. An optional inner tent provides sleeping space for five people. The Country Road models provide versatile, extra living space for two with an optional inner tent that can be used as a bedroom or for storage.

Outwell Cruising CollectionThe Crusing Collection provides a choice of simpler designs and comprises Darlington, Daytona (pictured left) and Daytona Tall. All feature Duratec fibreglass poles and Outtex 3000 polyester to ensure optimum performance. The simple dome-shape Daytona is perfect for multiple applications ranging from camping to outdoor activities to events. The larger Darlington provides even more space if needed in an easy-to-pitch tunnel design. Optional footprint and carpet are available in all Collections for enhanced protection and comfort.
