The AeroBed story began in 1992 when an innovative way to quickly inflate and deflate air mattresses was patented. After much research and development, the original AeroBed was born, bringing the comfortable, adjustable, extra bed in a minute to consumers for the first time. The bed fully inflated in less than 60 seconds with the exclusive built-in pump and its patented quick release valve deflated the bed in 15 seconds. In addition, the product featured adjustable firmness and premium-quality construction.

From 1992-1997, AeroBed sales were concentrated on TV home shopping programmes and in mail-order catalogues. The unique product concept was well received by consumers but not available at retail during this time because the product sold best when demonstrated. The goal was to build the AeroBed brand by educating consumers about "a whole new way to think about air."

In the summer of 1998, AeroBed launched its first infomercial to help raise awareness of the product and demonstrate its features. The response was fantastic, establishing AeroBed's foothold in the marketplace and achieving triple-digit sales growth. Following the infomercial's success, the AeroBed mattress gained broad distribution at specialty retailers and major department stores, on TV home shopping programmes, and in numerous mail-order catalogues.

Since the success of its landmark product, AeroBed has introduced several new and equally innovative products. The Raised AeroBed was introduced in 2001 and features all the comfort and convenience of the AeroBed, but with the height of a regular bed. This unprecedented product created a whole new category of air-filled mattresses, and the infomercial won several awards.

In 2002, AeroBed improved and adapted its inflation technology, and introduced the New & Improved AeroBed. This new AeroBed inflated 30% faster and 20% firmer than the original AeroBed, and the new recessed pump design made the AeroBed even more versatile. Aerobed continues to invest in leading-edge technology and has recently launched a new discreet flat panel pump as part of the Platinum range of products.
